With over two decades of professional experience, Dr. Tjandrawinata has been active as the director of business and scientific development for PT Dexa Medica in Jakarta since 2017 and the executive director for the Dexa Laboratories of Biomolecular Sciences (DLBS) since 2011. First joining Dexa Medica as the medical and training manager in 2000, he went on to serve as the head of medical affairs and business development, the director of scientific affairs and corporate development, the director of the DLBS, and the director of corporate development before attaining his current roles. Earlier in his career, Dr. Tjandrawinata worked as a regional medical associate and senior regional medical associate with SmithKline Beechum Pharmaceuticals, now GlaxoSmithKline, in Sacramento, California.
Alongside his primary responsibilities, Dr. Tjandrawinata has contributed his skills to a number of other professional endeavors as well. A regular lecturer in his field, he has been an advisory council member for the Harvard Business Review since 2012 and a global board member of the American Academy of Financial Management and an advisory council member of the International Certified Management Consultants Board since 2011. Dr. Tjandrawinata has also taught at several universities, including the Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia and the University of California Riverside.
An expert in his field, Dr. Tjandrawinata has authored numerous scientific papers for professional journals and has been invited to give presentations throughout the United States and Asia. Currently the chief editor of Medicinus, he previously held the same role with Dexa Medica and was on the editorial board of the Journal of Solid Tumors from 2000 to 2007. Additionally, he has spent time as a reviewer for the Pharmaceutical Journal of Indonesia, Cancer Cell International, Molecules and Pharmaceutical Biology. Holding a number of patents in his field, Dr. Tjandrawinata was notably the first to describe the molecular mechanisms of eicosanoids involvement in neoplastic cancer growth.
First earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry and biology from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, in 1987, Dr. Tjandrawinata continued his studies at UC Riverside, where he received a Master of Science in molecular biochemistry in 1989 and a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry in 1994. Following these accomplishments, he completed two postdoctoral fellowships in molecular pharmacology and molecular biology at the University of California San Francisco before obtaining a Master of Business Administration in strategic management from the Edward S. Ageno School of Business at Golden Gate University in San Francisco in 1998. Dr. Tjandrawinata maintains professional affiliation with the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, the International Society of Pharmacovigilance and the Indonesian Pharmacology Association, among others.
For excellence in his career, Dr. Tjandrawinata has been the recipient of a number of honors and accolades over the years. Most recently, he was presented with the WIPO Medal for Inventors from the World Intellectual Property Organization and an Intellectual Property Award from the Indonesian HKI Directorate General in 2018. Presented with the Habibie Award in 2016, he has also been elected as a fellow of the American College of Nutrition, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Royal Society of Biology and the American Academy of Financial Management. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Tjandrawinata has previously been featured in Who's Who in Asia, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, and Who's Who in the World.
