A tenured electrical engineer, Mr. Svard is the current president of Nord Mark Inc. since 1987. Headquartered in Plymouth, Minnesota, he is responsible for the United States sales for several Swedish manufacturers of giftware, as well as contracting sales representatives from around the country and overseeing the import of LED lights and lithium batteries for solar power systems and walkie talkies for several businesses. During Mr. Svard's tenure with the organization, he notably established a very cost-effective logistics system that allows imported gifts to be sold at very competitive prices in the United States.
Mr. Svard also spent close to 30 years with Alliant Techsystems Inc., formerly Honeywell, in Minneapolis where he held several program management and business management positions. Hired by the organization as a principal development engineer in 1973, he later retired in 2000 as a senior program manager of unmanned vehicle systems. Throughout his career, he became fluent in domestic and international business, as well as in the development of new processes and procedures in relation to conducting international business. Mr. Svard also spent four years as a design engineer at the Volvo Technical Center in Gothenburg, Sweden, where he served as a lead designer of more than 25 different fully automated test beds between 1969 and 1973.
Involved with SCORE, the nation's largest network of volunteer and expert business mentors, for some time, Mr. Svard had the opportunity to conduct training and team building sessions for start-up corporations. He also taught several multicultural seminars at the University of Minnesota and even presented at the Automatic Testing and Test Instrumentation Conference in Brighton, England, on a paper he had authored, "Advanced Digital Test System Designated for ATE." Mr. Svard has been active as the marketing director and president of Ekelund Weavers, a Swedish organization, since 2002 and also spent time as the board treasurer for the Swedish American Chamber of Commerce in Minnesota.
Born in Gothenburg, Mr. Svard studied at the Technical University of Gothenburg, where he received a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. He then attended the Chalmers University of Technology, obtaining a Master of Science in electrical engineering. During this time, he also served as a sergeant in the Swedish Coastal Artillery between 1967 and 1968 before ultimately relocating to the United States in 1973. He has since taken numerous technical education courses and is a registered professional engineer. In order to cultivate professional affiliations, Mr. Svard has held membership with the American Swedish Institute and Svenska Sallskapet.
Recognized for his work, Mr. Svard has been honored multiple times for his achievements in technology, people management and international sales. Some of these awards include a 1986 Honeywell Lund Award for Unique Achievement in developing Honeywell's human resources, a 1994 Great Performer Award for a Significant Business Achievement and a 1996 Stock Recognition Award for a Significant Business Achievement.
