A celebrated architect and real estate developer for more than 55 years, Sir James Robinson founded Robinson Architects, P.C., as the president in New York City just five years into his career in 1969. Previously associated with several architectural firms in the city, including Kennerly, Slomanson & Smith and Carson, Lundin & Shaw, he began his career with the Port of the New York Authority in 1964. Sir James Robinson also contributed his expertise as the vice president of R & S Construction, a visiting professor at the City University of New York and an adjunct professor at the Pratt Institute.

Earning a Bachelor of Architecture at Southern University in 1964, Sir James Robinson obtained a Master of Science in urban and regional planning at the Pratt Institute in 1972, where he was the recipient of a Martin Luther King fellowship. A licensed architect in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Virginia, Ohio and Florida, he has been certified by a National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Sir James Robinson notably completed service in the U.S. Army.
Sir James Robinson recalls one of the most significant times in his career when he was hired to design affordable housing in an area of Brownsville in Brooklyn, New York. He was responsible for 500 units, which were called the Nehemiah Houses and were later cited as one of the best property investments in America. He was additionally credited with changing the face and reputation of the neighborhood as a result of his work. Some of the other notable projects that Sir James Robinson supervised includes the Stuyvesant Heights Christian Church, the Fulton Court Houses, the Consolidated Edison Collection Center, the Paramount Best Western and the Sinclair Houses.
A member and an arbitrator of the American Arbitrators Association, Sir James Robinson has participated on the board of directors for the local Boys Club of America. Recognized as a Decorated Knight by the Order of Saint John, Knight of Malta, he also accepted a Design Award from the American Institute of Architects. A celebrated Marquis listee, Sir James Robinson has been featured in dozens of editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
He married Lady Martha Robinson on April 19, 2001. He has seven children (Kenneth, Gudonna, Maria Theresa, Cherrie, Jasmin Marisol, Ruby Nell and James II), 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
