BIRMINGHAM, MI, July 09, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John W. Hazard Jr. has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Hazard retired having accrued 33 years of secondary education at Cranbrook Schools and five years of university instruction at the University of Memphis (1968-1971) and Oakland University (2008-2009). Despite his retirement, he has continued to write poetry that has been published in more than 50 national literary journals and is collected in his 2015 book of poetry, Naming a Stranger, which is available from Kelsaybooks.com as well as Amazon.com.
Possessed of an abiding love for writing and literature, Mr. Hazard appreciated the dignity and respect college professors engendered amongst their students, which he vowed to emulate. He was particularly inspired by mentors such as Dr. Nancy Lewis from Denison University and Dr. Duane Schneider from Ohio University. Although his career has been suffused with highlights, Mr. Hazard is especially proud of creating a school-wide community service program that lasted from 1986-2005. It took student volunteers into Pontiac, Michigan Boys and Girls Clubs as tutors as well as area nursing homes as friends to patients.
Mr. Hazard was born and raised in Caldwell in the Appalachian foothills of southeastern Ohio. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Denison University in 1967, and a Master of Arts from Ohio University the following year. Subsequently, he pursued postgraduate studies through the University of Virginia and Wayne State University. He is a member of the Academy of American Poets. For his exemplary efforts in education, he has been featured in the 57th and 58th editions of Who's Who in America, and was honored more recently with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
