A seasoned legal professional, Mr. Marquess retired in 2017 from the practice of law. Focused primarily on employment litigation and traditional labor law, Mr. Marquess was also knowledgeable and experienced in all facets of employment related law. His four decades of experience included, most recently, 15 years as a shareholder and then special counsel at Littler Mendelson, PC in its Denver, Colorado office. He originally joined the firm in 2001 as the managing shareholder of the Denver office. Prior to his tenure with Littler Mendelson, he established and led the labor and employment law group at Otten, Johnson, Robinson, Neff & Ragonetti in Denver.
Mr. Marquess is an elected Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, was named to the Best Lawyers in America in his field, and was selected annually by his peers as a Colorado Super Lawyer starting in 2007 when that honor was established. He is a charter member of the Historical Society of the 10th Federal Judicial Circuit and a member of the Colorado Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation. He has chaired and served on numerous professional committees including in the Colorado Chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association, the Colorado Bar Association, and the Associated General Contractors.
An alumnus of Purdue University, Mr. Marquess earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1973. He received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the West Virginia University School of Law in 1977. He was admitted to the state bars of West Virginia, Texas, and Colorado and the federal bars of the United States Supreme Court, the United States Circuit Courts of Appeals for the Tenth and District of Columbia Circuits, and the United States District Courts for Colorado, the Southern District of West Virginia, the Northern District of Texas, the Northern District of Ohio, and the District of Nebraska. He also appeared in many other courts by special admission.
Mr. Marquess has also been cited in close to 60 biographical honors publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, and Who's Who in the World.
