He most recently found success as a syndicated columnist for Global Horizons Syndicate in Washington, DC, since 1972, having previously contributed as an environmental columnist for the Los Angeles Times Syndicate between 1972 and 1977. Other appointments include serving as a legislative assistant for House Representative Benjamin Stanley Rosenthal and assistant director of information for the European community in Washington, DC, between 1969 and 1972. At the inception of his career, Mr. Flattau worked for the United Press International as a political and congressional correspondent from 1962 to 1969.
Mr. Flattau graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1958. Subsequently, he completed postgraduate coursework from Columbia Law School between 1958 and 1960. In addition to his academic pursuits, he maintains membership with the Society of Environmental Journalists to remain aware of changes in his field.
A renowned writer, Mr. Flattau's written works include "Tracking the Charlatans" in 1998, "Evolution of a Columnist" in 2003, "Peering Through the Bushes" in 2004, "Green Morality" in 2011 and "From Green to Mean" in 2016. He has also contributed articles to a number of related magazines. For his accomplishments in the field, he has been presented a Distinguished Journalism Citation from the Scripps Howard Foundation in 1978, the Lorax Award from the Global Tomorrow Coalition in 1985, and the Global Media Award from the Population Institute in 1986, and he was recognized as the Top Columnist by Washingtonian Magazine in 2011.
An exceptional Marquis listee, Mr. Flattau was selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in America. Outside of work, he enjoys playing tennis and golf, as well as studying the Civil War. He is married to his wife Pamela, and they are the proud parents of two children, Jeremy and Victoria.
