An accomplished listee, Mr. Lilien celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. A celebrated secondary school educator, Mr. Lilien taught and chaired the social studies department at Concord-Carlisle High School for many years. Hired in 1965, during his tenure he spent a year as the K-12 social studies curriculum coordinator during 1997. He was also the head fencing coach for 20 years and the head tennis coach for 11 years. Furthermore, he coached fencing at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as well. Once retired, Mr. Lilien devoted another 15 years as a tournament director for the Dave Mason Kezar Lake Tennis Tournament, until 2015. He continues to serve as the director of the Concord Academy Fencing Camp since 1975.
An accomplished writer as well, Mr. Lilien authored several books, including "German History 1815-1945" in 1972. He soon after released "History of Greece and Rome" in 1979 and "Competition Experiment with World Cultures Class" in 1986. More recently, he published "Water is Rising in the Classroom: True Teacher Terror Dreams," which was released in 2004. A founding member and past president of the Four School History Consortium, he is also a member and past president of the Concord-Carlisle Teachers Association and former commissioner of the Northeast Fencing Conference in Boxboro, Massachusetts. Mr. Lilien has been active with the Conifer Maintenance Corp. as the chair of the board of directors since 2015, having previously served as president from 1985 to 1993.
Highly educated, Mr. Lilien received a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Chicago in 1961 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at Columbia University in 1964. However, after realizing that he did not want to heed his parents' advice and become an attorney, he transferred to Harvard University where he completed a Master of Arts in teaching in 1965. Mr. Lilien soon after began teaching German history, quickly propelling his career in education.
The recipient of a number of honors and accolades throughout the years, Mr. Lilien was impressively a New England Sabre Champion in the late 1960's. He later secured a grant from the Council for Basic Education in 1983 and was named to the Concord-Carlisle Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Lilien has previously been featured in close to a dozen editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in the World.
