In addition to her academic roles, she worked as the executive director of FrankfordStyle from 1992 to 2006. Earlier in her career, Ms. Kearns served as a professor and the chair of humanities at Antioch University from 1988 to 1989 and an artist-in-residence of the city of Philadelphia to the Frankford Group Ministry in 1986.
Ms. Kearns initially pursued an education with Arcadia University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in 1967. She continued her studies with Antioch University, earning a Master of Science in education in 1977. Ms. Kearns is a member of the Dramatists Guild, the Cosmopolitan Club, and Saint Martin's Episcopal Church.
A respected voice in her areas of interest, Ms. Kearns has been an active leader in her community. The founder of FrankfordStyle, the first community arts organizations sponsored by the city of Philadelphia, she also established the History of African Art course for Moravian College. Renowned for her biography of Kaethe Kollwitz, Ms. Kearns was previously active as a lecturer with Goethe House, a book critic for the Philadelphia Inquirer, a Broadway drama critic for ICON, and an art critic for Sculpture Magazine.
Throughout her career, Ms. Kearns has been celebrated for her contributions to the field. A Fulbright fellow in the Netherlands, she was a humanities fellow of the Aston Magna Academy of Baroque Music and Art and an Antioch University fellow of the Vatican. She was presented with the First Prize at the New Works of Merit Playwriting Contest, and the Partnership Award from the Arts and Business Council of Greater Philadelphia. Likewise, Ms. Kearns has been featured in numerous publications, including Who's Who of American Women.
