Now retired, Ms. Black flourished as a principal with the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District from 1990 to 1996. During her tenure with the aforementioned district, she held the posts of an assistant principal, a summer school principal, a member of the expulsion hearing panel, a teacher and a program manager between 1985 and 1990. Prior to these engagements, she served as a teacher and a program manager for the Visalia Unified School District from 1973 and 1985, having previously contributed as a teacher at the Rogue River School District between 1972 and 1973. Ms. Black began her career in Applegate, Oregon a teacher of a private kindergarten and a principal from 1965 to 1967.
Ms. Black is a graduate of the Southern Oregon State College, from which she earned a Bachelor of Science in 1972. Subsequently, she obtained a Master of Arts from the Alliant International University in 1987. To remain knowledgeable about changes in the field, Ms. Black maintains her professional affiliation with the National Education Association, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the Association of California School Administrators.
Ms. Black also worked as a presenter and evaluator for the Compensatory Education Conference for the California Department of Education in 1989. Creatively inclined, she has had artwork displayed in art shows during 1972, 2006, and in 2017. In light of her exceptional undertakings, she has been the recipient of the Golden Bell Award from the California School Boards Foundation in 1995. Likewise, Ms. Black has been selected for inclusion in editions of Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who of American Women.
