FERNANDINA BEACH, FL, July 12, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Aloysia Bartels with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Bartels celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After a long and distinguished career, Mrs. Bartels retired from her position as the President and the director of West Indies Sea Farms, Ltd., a company which she founded in the 1990's. Under her leadership, the company contracted with the Marine Division of the Smithsonian Institution to conduct mariculture research in the West Indies.
Mrs. Bartels grew up in southern Florida and learned from her father how to sail and navigate the seas. When she married and moved to Fernandina, she became fascinated with working boats. She acquired and operated five shrimp boats over the course of a decade. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) leased one of her boats and contracted with her to conduct marine research. Having an affinity for research, she sold her boats, and accepted a referral from NOAA to the Marine Division of the Smithsonian Institution for another project. For the new contract, she relocated to Carriacou, Grenada where she lived and worked for 11 years. Her company tested farming methods for Caribbean King Crab and established markets for the product. When the project was completed, she returned to Fernandina Beach to write poetry and teach oil painting.
Prior to embarking on her professional path, Mrs. Bartels graduated with a classical education from the Convent of Mary Immaculate, a boarding school in Key West run by French Canadian nuns. Mrs. Bartels distinguished herself in her many and diverse activities. She drove a station wagon for the transportation pool at the U.S. Naval Yard in Key West, Florida during World War II. After the war, she hosted her own daily radio show for WK12, discussing local news and current events. Upon relocating to Fernandina Beach, she served as the president of the Fernandina Beach Historical Society and founded the Fernandina Historic Preservation Commission. As a state appointee to a local park board, she organized the Pageant of Eight Flags, hosting ambassadors and emissaries from the eight nations that ruled over Fernandina Beach. Mrs. Bartels also launched the first ever Shrimp Boat Races during the slow month of May to rally support for the industry, which originated in Fernandina Beach. A witness to decades of growth and change, Mrs. Bartels continues to lend her voice in support of her local community.
Mrs. Bartels has been featured in several volumes of professional publications, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Aloysia Bartels has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
