Taking after his grandmother, Dr. Madigan began his theater career as a visual artist. After becoming involved in community theater, he realized the potential that theater had to uniquely blend media, and broadened his focus. He has worked extensively in theater and dance organizations throughout the Front Range area, serving as the technical director for the Cheyenne Civic Center in Wyoming from 1981 to 2015 and as an instructor of theater arts at the Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne from 1982 to 1984. Dr. Madigan has directorial credits for productions with Bas Bleu Theatre Company, OpenStage Theatre and Company in Fort Collins, Colorado, as well as scenic and lighting design credits with OpenStage Theatre and Company, Bas Bleu Theatre Company, Fort Collins Children's Theatre, Canyon Concert Ballet in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Ballet Wyoming, Reformation Dance Company and En Avant Dance in Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Dr. Madigan began his education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in 1975, before serving in the United States Army from 1976 to 1978. During his time in the Army, he served to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was stationed in Korea. He remained in the United States National Guard from 1978 to 1998, and names surviving his military service as his greatest career achievement. Returning to the University of Wyoming, Dr. Madigan completed a second Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts in 1981 before concluding his studies in 1993 with a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Colorado.
Furthermore, Dr. Madigan has lent his professional and military expertise to the National Guard Association and the United States Field Artillery Association. Active with other dance organizations as well, he served on the board of directors for the Cheyenne Little Theatre Players from 1978 to 1984 and for Dance Wyoming! in Cheyenne from 1984 to 1986. In light of all his accomplishments, Dr. Madigan has previously been featured in Who's Who in Entertainment and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
