With more than 55 years of professional excellence behind him, Dr. Brock has worked as an instructor and a professor for the University of Delaware since 1968, as well as a general manager of PLFB Enterprises. During his time with the University of Delaware, he also excelled as a senior associate dean of arts and sciences from 1987 until 2001, an associate chair of the English department from 1985 until 1987, the director for the Center of Science and Culture from 1977 until 1979, and an assistant dean of arts and sciences in 1969. Prior to this tenure, Dr. Brock served as an assistant instructor for the University of Kansas for five years.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Brock has also been a member of the former National Board of Consultants, the National Endowment of the Humanities, the Animal Welfare Committees of the Dupont Company and the professional consultation committee of the Medical Center of Delaware. Utilizing his considerable knowledge, he authored "A Ben Jonson Companion" in 1983, "Sign of Jonah" in 2010, "Elsburg, USA" in 2013, "The Ben Jonson Encyclopedia" in 2016, and numerous papers in professional journals over the years. He also was a founding editor of the journal Literature and Medicine. Likewise, Dr. Brock co-authored "Ben Jonson: A Quadricentennial Bibliography, 1947-1972" in 1974 alongside James M. Welsh.
A seasoned educator, Dr. Brock initially earned a Bachelor of Arts from Newberry College in 1963. He continued his studies at the University of Kansas, obtaining a Master of Arts in 1965. Dr. Brock concluded his academic efforts at the University of Kansas in 1969, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy.
Notably, Dr. Brock has been celebrated for outstanding efforts in education. In 1980, he accepted a grant from the National Science Foundation and the National Endowment of the Humanities. Subsequently, Dr. Brock was presented with grants from the American Philosophical Society and the University of Delaware.
