Dr. Wade is a retired associate dean and professor of electrical engineering at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa, Florida. Originally an interim assistant professor at the University of Florida in Gainesville between 1974 and 1976, he subsequently began teaching at Mississippi State University and was the state-wide director of the university's Microelectronics Research Laboratory. In 1985, he accepted an administrative/faculty position at USF, where he remained for the rest of his teaching career until 2009.
A celebrated figure in academia, Dr. Wade has been involved at Trinity College of Florida, serving as chairman of the business and finance committee and member of the executive committee and the board of trustees. He also spent time on the board of trustees at Toccoa Falls College. Active with many professional conferences and numerous committees, Dr. Wade more recently chaired the University Sabbatical Committee, was vice chairman of the subcommittee on microelectronics and materials enterprise for the Florida Innovation Partnership, and was on the board of directors of the Commercial Development of Space Communications Center at NASA.
Specializing in solid-state microelectronics and related topics, Dr. Wade has also been involved with interconnection systems, fluctuation phenomena (electric noise) in semiconductors and solid-state devices. Further, he has extensively studied the fabrication and characterization of solid-state devices and related materials. As a result of his research, he has contributed more than 125 articles to various professional journals and has held one U.S. patent since 2004.
An alumnus of the University of Florida, Dr. Wade received a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1966, Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1968 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1974. He has been a certified research administrator since 1992.
Dr. Wade has been extremely active with the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers for many years. A senior member, he has served on multiple committees and boards and has been involved with many conference proceedings and workshops. He is a past president of the USF chapter of the National Academy of Inventors and member of the International Society for Hybrid Microelectronics, the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, the American Vacuum Society, the American Physics Society and the American Electronics Association. Locally, Dr. Wade was named the national outstanding faculty advisory for the Florida Gamma chapter of Tau Beta Pi, where he has been a member for more than 40 years. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of New Tampa, where he once served as founder, president and director of international service and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow and a major donor.
Honored multiple times for his career in academia, Dr. Wade received several teaching awards from the USF and an Outstanding Teaching Incentive Program Award from the State of Florida. For his contributions to the sciences, he received an Outstanding Contribution to Science and Technology Award from the Florida Governor, a Second Centennial Certificate from the American Society for Engineering Education and a National McDonald Mentor Award from Tau Beta Pi. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Wade has been featured in dozens of editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World.
