Ms. Cooper celebrates close to four decades in a very fulfilling career in nursing. Recently retiring in 2018 as an obstetrics-gynecology nurse practitioner with the Okeechobee County Public Health Department in Okeechobee, Florida, she served in that capacity for 25 years. Prior to working in public health, Ms. Cooper was a nurse specialist at the HRS Office of Licensure and Certification in Tallahassee, Florida, an assistant director of nursing at the Okeechobee Health Care Facility and a head nurse and house supervisor at the HCA Raulerson Memorial Hospital in Okeechobee.
Experiencing early on what it would be like to work in healthcare, Ms. Cooper earned the opportunity to volunteer as a candy striper at a local hospital while in high school. Today, she is an alumnus of Emory University, where she completed the obstetrics-gynecology nurse practitioner program in 1992. Ms. Cooper also completed an Associate of Science in nursing at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida, in 1982 and became a licensed practical nurse at Riviera Beach Vocational Technical in 1973.
For excellence in her career, Ms. Cooper was presented with a Public Health Hero Award from the state of Florida in 2014. She was also notably responsible for securing a grant from the state of Florida to develop school clinics within Okeechobee County. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Cooper has been featured in the third edition of Who's Who Among Human Service Professionals and the fourth edition of Who's Who in American Nursing.
