RIVERSIDE, CA, July 16, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Judith Palmer with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Palmer celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Ms. Palmer began her 60-year career in the arts by completing her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California Berkeley in 1957. She subsequently attended Claremont Graduate University, graduating with a Master of Arts in 1971. During her time at the aforementioned university, she bristled at photorealistic drawing assignments because she believed there was no point in duplicating what photography could do better. She focused instead on a stylized postmodernism verging on abstraction more in line with the art of Jasper Johns, Cy Twombly, and Richard Diebenkorn, applying it to paintings, drawings, photo-etchings, and wood-blocks. In keeping with her own vision she continues to explore the language of art and the process by which art's sign-system communicates its message through line, texture, color, and image. Palmer collects "found language"--numerals, words, sentences--from streets, walls of buildings, or wastepaper pages and transfers their photo images onto zinc plates. She then combines these elements with traditional, more rigid patterns and techniques of etching. The result is a pictorial dialectic, a movement back and forth between spontaneously flowing arabesques that represent energy, aggression and rebellion, and the rigid, straight lines of confinement and restriction. This combined language of spontaneity and restraint generates movement and tension between the different parts. Form becomes content.
Ms. Palmer's work has been featured in numerous shows and exhibitions, most recently a solo show of photo etchings and woodblock prints at the Riverside Art Museum from 2016 to 2017. In 2002, her work was displayed in the exhibition "Desert Treasures," at the Tang Gallery in Bisbee, Arizona, and in a show at the Creative Arts Center in Burbank. Her prints have likewise been featured in group shows throughout Southern California since 1986. Ms. Palmer's commercial work includes cover art for "Red, White, and Blue," a novel," by Ben Stoltzfus. She has also collaborated as an illustrator for numerous books, namely "Romoland: A Pictonovel" by Ben Stoltzfus and "Isle of the Amazons in the Vermilion Sea" by Gregory MacDonald.
Ms. Palmer was the recipient of the Purchase Prize from Galleries Elect, Venice, California, and a juror's award from Dulin Gallery in Knoxville, Tennessee. In 1986 and 1987, she was granted a printmaking award from the Artist's Liaison of Los Angeles. She is a member of the Los Angeles Printmakers Society. In her leisure time, Ms. Palmer is passionate about chickens (she has been raising Araucanas since the mid 1960s), Boris, the desert tortoise, who roams the backyard eating dandelions, and monarch butterflies that flit back-and-forth between several milkweed habitats.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Judith Palmer has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
