Prior to obtaining his current role, he was a veterinarian for a small animal medicine veterinary practice in Werl, Germany, from 2013 to 2014, as well as a senior veterinarian of small animal medicine for Dr. Peitzmeier in Hille-Oberlübbe, Germany, from 2009 to 2013 and an assistant veterinarian of small animal practice for Dr. M. Nieder in Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock, Germany, from 2008 to 2009. Earlier in his career, he was a veterinary technician from 1999 to 2001 and a zoo animal keeper at the Bird Of Prey Shelter at Adlerwarte Berlebeck in Detmold from 1997 to 1998.
Alongside his primary endeavors, Dr. Büker-Steinschulte has also served as a visiting lecturer at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, since 2017, as well as a veterinarian at the Raptors Center at Adlerwarte Berlebeck since 2008. A member of the German Association of Falconry, the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the British Veterinary Association, he enjoys mountaineering, climbing and trail running in his spare time.
Dr. Büker-Steinschulte began his career as a student at the University of Applied Sciences and Art, completing coursework in forestry from 1998 to 1999. He subsequently completed coursework in veterinary medicine with the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hannover, Germany, from 2001 to 2007. Thereafter, he joined the University of Zurich, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 2008. He later completed postgraduate coursework in clinic zoo animals, exotic pets and wildlife in Zürich, Switzerland, from 2008 to 2011. Dr. Büker-Steinschulte also obtained a Master of Science in international animal health from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in 2011.
Throughout his career, Dr. Büker-Steinschulte has been recognized for his achievements. He has received awards and accolades for his contributions. He has also been featured in numerous honors publications, including the 32nd and 33rd editions of Who's Who in the World.
