With a career spanning more than 35 years, Ms. Arnold was first introduced to the health care industry as a teenager, when she shadowed her aunt, who worked at an assisted living facility. She was so impressed by the work and the rapport between the staff and the patients that's she was inspired to become a nurse. Prior to embarking on her career, she obtained a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Goshen College in Goshen, Indiana, in 1981. Following her graduation, Ms. Arnold became a staff nurse in the intensive care unit at Goshen Hospital, holding this role from 1981 to 1985, moving to an administrative director role from 1985 to 1994 before becoming the director of the hospital's medical-surgical unit from 1994 to 1999 and a quality analyst from 1999 to 2003.
To further her education, Ms. Arnold attended the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana earning a Master of Science in administration in 2001 and earned a Master of Science in nursing in 2008 from the University of St. Francis, Fort Wayne, Indiana. She completed a patient safety fellowship in 2011 sponsored by the American Hospital Association and the National Patient Safety Foundation. In 2009 she earned the healthcare accreditation certification professional distinction from the Center for Improvement in Healthcare Quality. From 2006 to 2012, she was the executive director of quality and safety outcomes for Starke Hospital and La Porte Hospital in Indiana, both part of Indiana University Health. Ms. Arnold acted as the chief nursing and quality officer/vice president of clinical operations at both hospitals from 2012 to 2014, before becoming the executive director of quality management at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in 2015, where she continues to serve. An accomplished writer in her field, Ms. Arnold has been published professionally, notably authoring a chapter in the textbook "Quality and Safety in Healthcare Systems," which was published by Springer Publishing in 2014. She also spent time as an adjunct clinical faculty member of the nursing program at Ivy Tech Community College in South Bend, Indiana, from 2005 to 2006. In light of all her accomplishments, Mr. Arnold has been awarded several professional distinctions, including a Quality and Safety Innovation Award in 2013 and an Academic Excellence Award and a Clinical Excellence Award in 2008, among multiple others.
