Inspired by professor Nadezhda Golubovskaya of Saint Petersburg Conservatory, Mr. Khokhlov is a concert pianist and a teacher for the Russian Piano School Studio in Tampa, Florida, where he began in 1991 after returning to the United States as repatriated American citizen. (Vladimir was born in St. Petersburg, Florida on May 25, 1943 but grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia.)
For 28 years of teaching his students received more than 180 awards at different Local, State, National and International competitions and performed with Florida Orchestra, Tampa Bay Symphony and Imperial Symphony orchestras.
Prior to his relocation to the United States he served as a teacher and accompanist for the Jazeps Medins Music High School in Riga, Latvia (1983-1991) as well as a soloist and accompanist for the Latvian State Philharmonic (1974-1991) and conductor for the Blind People Society chorus (1st Place at the Latvian competition, 1984). Previously he worked as soloist and accompanist for the Karelian Philharmonic (1968-1970), and for the Lenconcert Philharmonic Department (1970-1974). Mr. Khokhlov began his career in the field of teaching at Leningrad Community College (1965-1968).
Throughout his career, Mr. Khokhlov found success as a vocal coach and accompanist, and his coached and accompanied singers received numerous awards at the competitions in Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, Greece, Italy, and Japan. Music festivals, he has performed for, include Schlern International and Orfeo International in Italian Alps, as well InterHarmony International festival in Acqui Terme, Piedmont, Italy.
For 26 years Mr. Khokhlov has also served as a conductor for the Latvian Association of St. Petersburg, Florida, chorus which became under his guidance one of the best Latvian choruses in US and Canada.
He started taking piano lessons at the age of 5, and later continued his education at the Special Music School for Gifted Children at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory (1952-1961.) Subsequently he pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree with St. Petersburg State Conservatory (1961-1968), and later in his career completed three years of Postgraduate studies at the Florida State University (2000-2003).
Moreover, Mr. Khokhlov maintain his affiliation with Tampa (as Vice-President), Florida State and National Music Teachers Associations as well Florida State and National Federations of Music Clubs, and for 20 years served as Member of the Board, Music Director and Vice-President for 'Russian Heritage, St. Petersburg, Florida' organization.
Throughout his storied career, he has composed a number of creative works, including "Piano Ensembles for 4-, 6,-and 8 hands," (Latvian Folk Songs Arrangements, 1981), "Two Pieces for Concert Kokle and Piano" (1981), numerous pieces for Latvian Philharmonic concert programs and songs arrangements for Latvian Association Chorus.
Recordings: 'Jewish Impressions' with Riga's "Via Tertia" ensemble (1989 Melodia, USSR), and CD "Jewish Folk Song" arranged by Max Goldin with Inese Galante (1995, Campion Records, England).
Mr. Khokhlov has been celebrated on several occasions for his excellence in music: Honor Diplomas for the best accompanist at the E. Darzins (1975, Latvia), Soviet Songs (1977, Lithuania), A. Kalnins (1979, Latvia) vocal competitions, Latvian State Award (1977), Honor Diploma at Pinault Society Competition (1996, N.Y. N.Y.), Willa Chapman Award for Graduate Students at the FSU (2000), and Diploma of Recognition from Free World Latvian Culture Foundation (2012).
Mr. Khokhlov has been featured in such professional publications as Who's Who in the World (Millenial edition) and' Who's Who in America in Executives and Professionals (2006).
