Mr. Montgomery has enjoyed more than 40 years of accomplishment in the cotton farming and trading industries. Prior to embarking on his career, he graduated with a degree in business from Auburn University in 1967. The following year he began his career as a farmer. With cotton farming being the family business, Mr. Montgomery entered the business just as soon as he was able. Prior to embarking on his career, he achieved the honor of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. He graduated from Opelika High School in 1963.
Mr. Montgomery followed in his family's tradition of farming that originated in 1887. In 1973, he started work a cotton merchant at the Montgomery Co. Inc. in Opelika, Alabama, a position he held until 2004. During this time, he was also active on the board of managers for the New York Cotton Exchange from 1984 to 1992. Alongside his primary career endeavors, he spent time as the director of the First National Bank in Opelika, Alabama, as well as the director of Toys Plus Inc. in Montgomery, Alabama. Mr. Montgomery officially retired from farming in 2013.
From 1990 to 2013, Mr. Montgomery relocated to Argentina, where he entered the ranching industry. He names this time as a highlight of his career and one step in what he describes as a wonderful journey. He greatly enjoyed the opportunities for travel and cultural exchange that his time in Argentina afforded him. Mr. Montgomery remains active in his community, serving on the board of directors of the Alabama Sheriff's Girls Ranch, in Opelika, Alabama. In his leisure time, he enjoys horseback riding and is an accomplished golfer, having won the World 4-Ball Championship at the Gleneagles Golf Club in Scotland in 1981. He is the proud father of three children. In his free time, Mr. Montgomery enjoys hunting, trout fishing and horseback riding.
