An esteemed attorney with decades of experience, Mr. Gans has served as an international and commercial arbitrator and a mediator since 2002. Additionally, he has found success as a member of the executive committee of the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution and is active as a fellow with the College of Commercial Arbitrators. Before becoming an arbitrator and a mediator, he maintained involvement as the special counsel with Kaye Scholer from 2000 until 2002, an international senior counsel for Olin Corp between 1975 and 1979, and the vice president, the general counsel, and a secretary for Siemens Corp from 1979 until 1999. From 1967 to 1979, Mr. Gans built a prolific career as an associate counsel and a counsel at Olin Corp. His inaugural role in the field was that of an associate for Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Gans earned a Bachelor of Arts from Bowdoin College in 1957. He subsequently obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence and a Master of Laws in comparative law through New York University in 1961 and 1967, respectively. He was promptly admitted to practice law through the New York State Bar Association. Over the years, Mr. Gans has furthered his education through the University of Vienna summer school, at which he took an intensive course in German language and international law. He retains his professional alignment with the College of Commercial Arbitrators, the American Bar Association, the American Arbitration Association, the American Foreign Law Association, the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, and the International Bar Association.
For his numerous outstanding accomplishments, Mr. Gans has earned such accolades as an AV preeminent rating through Martindale-Hubbell. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Katherine, his children, David and Erik, and his grandchildren Nicholas, Rachel, Heather, Jordan, and Charlie. Mr. Gans' avocations include map collecting, travel, sports, and reading.
