In the early years of his work with the firm, he likewise served as an assistant deputy superintendent, administrative assistant to the superintendent of police & Interpol coordinator, and a captain of police for the Chicago Police Department. Prior to starting his firm, he found success with the Chicago Police Department as a mass transit unit watch commander from 1977 until 1978, a field lieutenant of the 23rd district, a sergeant of research and development, and a sergeant of the detectives and special operations group from 1970 until 1977. Mr. Rittenberg additionally garnered valuable expertise as a criminal investigations detective from 1968 to 1970. Subsequently, he obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence Cum Laude from DePaul University in 1972. Mr. Rittenberg promptly received admission to practice through the Illinois Supreme Court in 1972. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States, the Iowa Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First and Seventh Circuits, U.S. Court of International Trade, and the U.S. District Court of the Northern District of Illinois trial bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. He maintains his professional alignment with the Chicago Police Captains Association, the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Phi Alpha Delta, American Arbitration Association, and the Grand Lodge of A.F. & A.M. Master Mason among others.
In civic affairs, Mr. Rittenberg has contributed his time and resources to the Supreme Court's Committee on Character and Fitness, and was elected Alderman of the 40th ward between 1979 and 1983. From 1968 until 1978, he also served his country as a reserve commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. Mr. Rittenberg has been honored numerous times for his efforts in law and criminal justice, earning the Salute to Youth Award through the Zionist Organization of Chicago, gates of Jerusalem Medal, State of Israel Bonds, outstanding dedication as a police officer, lawyer, community leaders and politician from the United Life Church, Chicago Korean Chamber of Commerce, Ravenswood Conservation Commission and various appreciation awards through the Chicago Police Department, the Mayor & City Council of Chicago, and Illinois State Senate as well as a feature in Who's Who in American Law.
