GRAND RIVERS, KY, July 20, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Lucy Cleaver Young, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Young celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Retiring after more than 35 years of professional excellence, Dr. Young celebrates a life defined by ethical fortitude and compassionate care. Prior to embarking on her career in medicine, she earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Wheaton College in 1965, and subsequently obtained a Doctor of Medicine from the Ohio State University four years later. Dr. Young continued her studies, undertaking an internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital and later a residency with Trumbull Memorial Hospital until 1971, whereupon she opened a family practice in West Chicago. Two years later, she transferred to two other cities in Illinois, Paw Paw and Mendota, in which she continued to administer quality patient care until 1978.
During this time, Dr. Young joined the faculty of the University of Illinois Abraham Lincoln School of Medicine as an associate professor, excelling in that capacity until 1979. That same year, she briefly held the post of an assistant medical director of the Great Lakes office of Metropolitan Life Insurance. Remaining in the life insurance field, she subsequently served as the medical director of Commonwealth Life Insurance Company in Louisville for five years. Throughout this appointment, she was concurrently active as a faculty preceptor of the University of Louisville family practice department from 1981 to 1985. Following these positions, Dr. Young continued her career at a family practice of Kron Medical Corp. of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where she had maintained her involvement as a locums tenens physician until 1989.
Dr. Young initially started volunteer medical work at Red Bird Mission and Medical Center, in Beverly, Kentucky, in 1985, eventually becoming paid staff from 1989 to 1990, when she left KY and became affiliated with Ochsner Clinic satellite locations as a family practice floater in the New Orleans area. Over the course of this appointment, she excelled as a clinical faculty preceptor for the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, and as a member of the staff at the Ochsner Foundation Hospital, from 1991 to 2006. During these years, she continued to volunteer occasionally at Red Bird Medical Center in Kentucky. In 2006, Dr. Young fully retired from all of her positions, though she remained involved in affairs of civic responsibility, which include contributing to spiritual wellbeing of her fellow adherents as a lay preacher and musician at Saint Matthew by the Lake Lutheran Church in Benton, Kentucky, and volunteering at Benton's H.O.P.E. Clinic Crisis Pregnancy Center from 2007 onward.
In recognition of outstanding contributions to her profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Young has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
