Eyhab Al-Masri Celebrated for Dedication to Computer Science and Engineering

Dr. Al-Masri has been recognized among World's 100 Most Influential System Scholars



    TACOMA, WA, July 25, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Eyhab Al-Masri has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Supported by a wealth of professional expertise in software engineering, embedded systems, data analytics and Internet of Things, Dr. Al-Masri currently provides his knowledge to the students of the School of Engineering and Technology at the University of Washington Tacoma as an assistant professor. Previously he worked as a software engineer for Apptimum, a data migration software company that was acquired by Microsoft in 2006. Between 2006 to 2017, Dr. Al-Masri found success with a number of educational institutions, including the University of Guelph, the Ontario Tech University, University of Waterloo and the Wilfrid Laurier University. Dr. Al-Masri is an expert in the fields of Distributed Systems, Cloud Computing and the Internet of Things. Dr. Al-Masri is passionate about the intersection of software and hardware and is intimately familiar with emerging IoT-related technologies.

To prepare for his career, Dr. Al-Masri earned a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering from Florida International University in 2000. Subsequently, he returned to alma mater and obtained a Master of Science in electrical engineering in 2002. He concluded his studies at the University of Guelph in 2008, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in computer science. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Al-Masri is actively involved with a number of industry organizations and is an active member across the computer science and engineering research community. He has been a member of the organizing committee for The Web Conference (formerly known as WWW conference) WWW2016, WWW2017, TheWebConf2018 and TheWebConf2020. Dr. Al-Masri serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Intelligent Systems Design and Computing and the International Journal of Big Data Intelligence and as a guest editor for a number of scientific journals including the Applications of Internet of Mobile Things Journal and the Applications of Internet of Things Journal.

For his achievements in the field, Dr. Al-Masri received an Honorable Mention for the prestigious 2009 ProQuest Doctoral Dissertation Award for his research work in the discovery and ranking of web services. His doctoral dissertation was also nominated for ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award and SIGKDD Doctoral Dissertation Award in 2009. His research paper titled "Investigating Web Services on the World Wide Web" was among the top three finalists for the Best Student Paper Award in WWW2008. His research project for implementing an IoT edge-based urban waste management for creating smart cities received third place in the Microsoft Azure IoT on Serverless Hackathon in 2018. Dr. Al-Masri has a special interest in the artificial intelligence, digital forensics and security of the Internet of Things and edge computing.

Throughout his career, Dr. Al-Masri has contributed his research to over fifty refereed journal articles, conference papers and book chapters, such as "An Artificial Neural Network Approach for the Detection of Abnormal Heart Rhythms," "A Practical System for Hands-Off Computer Interaction Based on EMG/Eye Gaze Tracking," "A Service-Oriented Approach for Assessing the Quality of Data for the Internet of Things," "Enhancing the Microservices Architecture for the Internet of Things," "A Fog-Based Digital Forensics Investigation Framework for IoT Systems," "Qos-based Discovery and Ranking of Web Services" and "Investigating Web Services on the World Wide Web."

Dr. Al-Masri has been celebrated many times for his exemplary efforts in the field. Notably, he was featured among World's 100 Most Influential System Scholars in the AMiner Most Influential Scholar Annual List in 2018. Looking toward the future, Dr. Al-Masri intends to continue researching in the field of the Internet of Things and leading a cutting-edge research project.
