Now retired, Ms. Molland celebrates more than 30 years of excellence and compassion in nursing. Born in Jamaica, she first studied medicine at the University Hospital of West Indies, and earned a diploma in 1956. She continued her studies abroad in England, obtaining certification as a midwife from both the Whittington and Pembury, Hospitals of London in 1958. Within a decade, she traveled to New York and began her nursing career in earnest, joining St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, formerly St. Luke's Hospital Center, currently renaimed Mount Sinai St. Lukes, as a staff nurse in 1966. Ms. Molland's competence and knack for quality care saw her advance to the position of head nurse in 1973 — a position that she held for 10 years.
To add to her credentials, Ms. Molland attained a Bachelor of Arts from Marymount Manhattan College in 1975 and a Master of Arts from Columbia University three years later. In 1983, she assumed her last position with the hospital as a clinical coordinator. During her tenure in this role, she wrote "A History of Woman's Hospital," a fondly remembered highlight of her career. She continued to serve with aplomb until her retirement in 1995 from St. Luke's.
Ms. Molland continued to consult, lending her expertise as a member of a professional standards review board at 200 Madison Avenue in 1997, and as an adjunct lecturer of clinical nursing at Borough of Manhattan Community College the following year. She also practiced as a corporate healthcare nurse in various corporate medical departments, downtown Manhattan, which was an interesting and valuable experience. She holds certificates of appreciation from various organizations, including Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wounded Warrior, and the Special Olympics. Pertinent to her field of expertise, Ms. Molland has been a member of both the New York State Nurses Association, and the Nurses Association of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her avocations include day trading, gardening and decorating.
