Having accrued over 50 years of teaching experience before retiring, Ms. Robertson served as an assistant professor of English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, formerly known as University of Southwestern Louisiana. Prior to that position, she excelled as an English teacher at Guy B. Phillips Junior High School in Chapel Hill. Before entering the field of education, Ms. Robertson spent nearly 10 years working as a nurse in Shipman Nursing Home, Saint Joseph's Hospital, and Aston Park Hospital, a position she is quite proud of having held. In the years between these posts, Ms. Robertson worked as a secretary at the University of North Carolina for both the School of Public Health and the university library. In addition to her work in education and nursing, she found success as a real estate sales person for Lafayette Realty for over 10 years.
Prior to her professional journey, Ms. Robertson studied at Western Carolina College, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in 1964. After pursuing more concentrated studies in language, she earned a Master of Arts in English from University of North Carolina in 1969. She then completed postgraduate coursework at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge from 1973 to 1975.
Active in her field, Ms. Robertson has served on a number of professional panels, including the Louisiana National Teachers Examination Validation panel. She also attended the Sentence Combining Conference in Miami, as well as the Conference on College Composition and Communication in Chicago and the Popular Culture Conference in San Antonio.
Outside of her career responsibilities, Ms. Robertson is an active member of several professional associations. She contributed as the president of the University of Louisiana chapter of the American Association of University Professors in 1999, for which she became the secretary in 1988. She is also a member of the South Central Modern Language Association, the Arkansas Philological Association, the Popular Culture Association, the American Culture Association, and Alpha Phi Sigma. An established authority in her field, Ms. Robertson was active as the editor of the Bulletin of the Association of University Professors and has published over 10 contributor articles to various professional journals, a feat she considers to be one of the highlights of her career.
