With more than 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Franklin has been retired since 2000, having been the president and chief executive officer, as well as on the board of directors, of Herget National Bank in Pekin, Illinois, since 1987. Prior to obtaining this role, he served as president/CEO and board member of the First National Bank of Lincoln, Illinois, from 1975 to 1987; the senior vice president and board member of the First National Bank of Waukesha, Wisconsin from 1973 to 1975; and a vice president of the Continental Illinois National Bank of Chicago from 1959 to 1973.
Mr. Franklin began his career as a student at the University of Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in commerce and law in 1957. Following this accomplishment, he joined the United States Army and served to the rank of first lieutenant by 1959. After spending nearly a decade in the field, Mr. Franklin returned to his studies, completing postgraduate coursework with the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1969 to 1971.
A respected voice in his areas of expertise, Mr. Franklin has been an active leader in his community as well. The former president of the Pekin Country Club, he has served on the boards of directors of the Pekin Community Concert Association, the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce, the Lincoln Economic Development Association, the Greater Peoria Area Economic Development Council, and the Peoria Civic Opera from 1990 to 1992. Mr. Franklin holds membership with Robert Morris Associates, Benevolent and Protective Order of Odd Fellows, Elks and Rotary International. In Pekin, he served on the board of directors of the Pekin Insurance Co. and the Tazewell Machine Co.
Throughout his career, Mr. Franklin has been recognized for his contributions. Notably, he was honored for Meritorious Service by the University of Illinois Alumni Association in 1981 and for Distinguished Service by the Lincoln Area Chamber of Commerce in 1985.
He married Jacqueline "Jackie" R. Benge on August 22, 1954. They have five grown daughters, Kristy, Tracy, Deborah, Vicki, and Rebecca, and five grandchildren, Parker, Harrison, Spencer, Graham and Madeleine.
In light of all his accomplishments, Mr. Franklin has previously been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry.
