As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After garnering a laudable reputation in the field of social sciences for more than 50 years, Dr. Yamanouchi retired from her position as the vice president of academic affairs at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 2008. During this time, she concluded her studies and graduated from Michigan State University with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1972. In 1975, Dr. Yamanouchi joined the faculty at the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania as a full professor, and remained there as a respected voice in social science for over 30 years.

Additionally, she is associated with a number of colleges and organizations pertinent to her interests, being a trustee of Tokyo Kasei University, Lackawanna College and the Lacawac Sanctuary. Serving as an advisory board member at Misericordia University in Dallas, Pennsylvania, and the Northeastern Intermediate Unit School Board in Scranton, Dr. Yamanouchi also devised an eponymous lecture series in 2012, which was a point of immense pride.
In recognition of Dr. Yamanouchi's innumerable contributions to social science, she has been the recipient of many honors and awards, including being named Woman of the Year by the International Biographical Centre in 2014 and presented with an Education Service Award by the Wilkes Barre Board of Education in 2002 and the Distinguished Sociologist Award from the Pennsylvania Sociological Society in 1987. Previously, she maintained membership in a number of likeminded organizations, such as the Pennsylvania Sociological Society, for which she was once president, the International Society for the Comparative Study of Civilizations and the Association for General and Liberal Studies. Dr. Yamanouchi remains a United Nations delegate to the International Organization for Unification of Terminological Neologisms and, as a committed patron of the arts, she is a board member for both the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and the Everhart Museum of Natural History, Science and Art.
