Having accrued more than 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Reid is currently the chairman emeritus and a stockholder of the Carlton Fields law firm. He also serves the firm as a board member and a member of the executive committee. In 1990, he found success as a shareholder with the Miami office of Popham Haik until 1997. His career began in 1974, when he was an attorney and a shareholder for Kimbrell & Hamann in Miami, Florida. Additionally, he has lectured at DePaul University College of Law, the American Bar Association, and Wadham College at the University of Oxford.
Mr. Reid pursued an education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, also known as UNC-Chapel Hill, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English history in 1971. He continued his studies in the School of Law at the University of Georgia, graduating, cum laude, with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1974. He has been admitted to practice law by the Florida Bar, the State Bar of Georgia, the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for three circuits, and the United States District Court for four districts.
A contributor to several professional journals, Mr. Reid is the senior editor for the Georgia Law Review, the flagship publication of the University of Georgia School of Law. He is also a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi and a fellow of the American Bar Association. He contributed his time and services on the board of directors for the Orange Bowl Committee in 2012 and is a chair and a founding member of the President's Council, formerly known as the Council of 100, at the Florida International University.
Notably, Mr. Reid has been inducted into the Florida Legal Elite Hall of Fame by Florida Trend. He was recognized by Best Lawyers in America in Bet-the-Company Litigation. Among several other honors and accolades, he has accumulated the President Pro Bono Service Award for the 11th Judicial Circuit from the Florida Bar, a Pinnacle Award from the Church of Incarnation, and the Thomas W. Watkins Humanitarian Award.
