A commended educator and a lifelong lover of literature, Dr. Sáez is currently an emeritus professor of the College of Staten Island, a part of the City University of New York system. Since accepting this emeritus designation, he has rediscovered his roots in Spain and spent a great deal of time with his family and friends abroad as well as with his partner, Eric G. Bernard. Previously, he excelled at the College of Staten Island as a professor from 1989 to 2000 and as an associate professor from 1976 to 1988. Earlier in his career, Dr. Sáez gained valuable expertise as an assistant professor of humanities for Richmond College of the City University of New York.
Dr. Sáez began his career as an English instructor for Queens College between 1964 and 1967. Over the years, he has authored "Theodicy in Baroque Literature," and has edited "Garland Publications in Comparative Literature" for many years. Additionally, Dr. Sáez contributed his research to a number of articles, including "James Merril's Oedipal Fire," "Merrill's Apocalyptic Epic," "Elliot Carter's Songs," and "The Ritual Sacrifice in Lorca's Poeta en Nueva York."
In 1958, Dr. Sáez earned a Bachelor of Arts in humanities from Dartmouth College.
Subsequently, he completed coursework in Spanish literature at the University of Madrid from 1958 until 1959 and Italian literature at the University of Rome between 1963 and 1964. Three years later, he enrolled at the prestigious Yale University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy in comparative literature. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Sáez is affiliated with the American Comparative Literature Association, the International Comparative Literature Association, the American and International Shakespeare Associations, the American Literary Translators Association and the Renaissance Society of America.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sáez has been celebrated on a number of occasions. In addition to accepting fellowships through Yale University, Dartmouth College, the University of Rome and the University of Madrid, he was presented with a travel grant from the Center for International Studies in 1986. Dr. Sáez was further honored with the Theron Rockwell Field Prize from Yale University in 1967.
