Now retired, Ms. Strunz led a prolific career as an army officer for nearly 30 years. Beginning as a telecommunications center specialist for the 178th Signal Company with the United States Army in Heidelberg, Germany, in 1974, she was later commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1980. She advanced through several grades to a lieutenant colonel, accepting the position of chief of plans, operations, training, and security for the United States Army Hospital in Bremerhaven, Germany, from 1980 to 1982. Soon thereafter, Ms. Strunz held the post of ambulance platoon leader at the 47th medical battalion in Furth, Germany, for a year, before serving as the Executive Officer of Dental Activity in Fort Lee, Virginia, between 1983 and 1985.
Following the conclusion of her affiliation as an adjutant with the Kenner Army Health Clinic in Fort Lee for a year, Ms. Strunz relocated to Fort Still, Oklahoma, where she served as a commander of the 47th Field Hospital, from 1986 to 1988. She was later transferred to the 121st Evacuation Hospital, 18th medical command in Seoul, South Korea, and served as the chief of personnel services division, from 1988 to 1989. Moreover, Ms. Strunz worked as a commander of troop command and the chief of military personnel for the William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, from 1990 until 1993. Between 1993 and 1998, was successful serving in positions as in the roles of a career planning officer for the United States Army Human Resources Command, a personnel policy analyst for the Office of the Army Surgeon General, and an executive assistant to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs. Ms. Strunz was selected as the director of personnel and administration in Falls Church, Virginia, from 1998 to 1999, subsequently becoming a deputy commander of administration at the Weed Army Community Hospital in Fort Irwin, California, between 1999 and 2001.
Upon completion of that tour, Ms. Strunz was assigned to Ireland Army hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky, as a deputy commander of administration, from 2001 to 2003, eventually retiring as an Army Lieutenant Colonel of the Medical Service Corps in 2006. Other career-related endeavors to her credit include completing a chaplain internship with the Compassus, a hospice in Cass City, during 2016. Additionally, she interned as a chaplain for the Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, in 2017.
Ms. Strunz also pursued a formal education at Delta College in Bay County, from which she earned an Associate of Applied Science in 1974. She later graduated from Alma College with honors, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1980. As she continued her academic efforts, Ms. Strunz enrolled at ROTC at Central Michigan University from 1978 to 1980, further securing a Master of Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma in 1989. Moreover, Ms. Strunz received a Master of Divinity from the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary in 2017.
To remain aware of current trends in the field, Ms. Strunz was affiliated with The Association of Military Surgeons of the United States, The American Society for Public Administration, the Women's Army Corps, the Order of Military Medical Merit and San Pedro Presbyterian Church.
