Supported by an impressive educational background, Dr. Koeppe found success as a medical educator for 40 years and an internist for over 60 years. She began her career as an intern at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Virginia, between 1960 and 1961, further progressing to resident of internal medicine with the Memphis VA Medical Center from 1961 and 1962. Subsequently, she completed another residency in internal medicine with the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Boston and accepted a fellowship in endocrinology and metabolism at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston from 1963 and 1965. Dr. Koeppe continued working with the aforementioned institution, holding the posts of instructor of internal medicine and endocrinology, assistant professor of endocrinology, assistant professor of internal medicine and professor of medicine from 1965 to 1973 and from 1978 to 1998. While at the University of Texas Medical Branch in the Department of Medicine, she was one of the first faculty members in the Division of General Medicine and was instrumental in developing the Division of Geriatrics.
Dr. Koeppe was the director of the Center for Women's Health and Medicine in College Park, Maryland, from 1974 and 1977. Furthermore, she progressed through her tenure with the University of Texas Medical Branch serving in the roles of faculty member of biomedical science, associate professor, and acting director of the geriatric division, before retiring as a professor in 1998. As such, Dr. Koeppe was recognized as an honorary member of the medical staff for the University of Texas Medical Branch that same year. In 1974 while associated with the Department of Development at Texas A and M University in College Station, Texas, she wrote the first grant application for the Texas A and M University School of Medicine. From 1975-1977 she was the Director for the Women's Health Center at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.
In preparation for her prestigious career, Dr. Koeppe studied at Texas Woman's University in Denton and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1954. Soon thereafter, she secured a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Tennessee in 1957. To remain knowledgeable about developments in the field, she maintained affiliation with the American Geriatrics Society, the Texas Medical Association, the TMP Health Quality Institute and the Galveston County Medical Society, among others.
An exceptional Marquis listee, Dr. Koeppe has been selected for inclusion in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, Who's Who of American Women and Who's Who in the World.
