An accomplished listee, Dr. Auvenshine celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. With more than 50 years of experience in educational administration, Dr. Auvenshine has become an authority in his industry. He began his career as a music teacher at the Chico Independent School District in Texas from 1957 to 1960 and at the Ranger Independent School District in Texas from 1960 to 1964. He excelled as a manager and co-owner at Megert Music Co. from 1964 to 1970, a counselor with the Thompson School District in Loveland, Colorado from 1970 to 1972 and the dean of Ranger College in Texas from 1972 to 1984. Likewise, he worked as the president of Hill College from 1984 to 2004 and the interim president of Galveston College from 2007 to 2008. Dr. Auvenshine concluded his career in 2012 after four years as the president of Clarendon College.

Notably, Dr. Auvenshine helped to establish a new library at Hill College, which was named the W.R. Auvenshine Library in his honor. Furthermore, he has also been recognized while president of Clarendon College through the William Auvenshine Technical Center in Pampa, Texas. Prior to becoming an esteemed educational administrator, he pursued higher education with an Associate of Arts from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1957. Dr. Auvenshine went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from Texas Christian University in 1959, a Master of Science from West Texas A&M University in 1967 and a Doctor of Educational Psychology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1973.

Apart from his career, Dr. Auvenshine has volunteered in his field and community as well. He was the president of the Cleburne Christian Business Club from 2000 to 2003 and the chair of the board of directors for the Eastland County Appraisal District from 1979 to 1984. Likewise, he was a member of the General Board of the Discipleship, Central Texas Conference Lay Leader and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Happily married to Anna Banks since 1963, he is the proud father of two children and grandfather to five grandchildren. In his free time, Dr. Auvenshine enjoys golfing, reading and restoring antique cars.

Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Auvenshine remains informed of the changes and advancements in his industry through relevant organizations. He was president of the Texas Association of Chief Student Personnel Administrators from 1982 to 1983 and president of the Texas Association of Community Colleges in 1991 to 1992. He also acted as the secretary of the Texas Community College Association from 1985 to 1990. Likewise, Dr. Auvenshine is affiliated with the Hillsboro County Club, Phi Delta Kappa International and is a 32nd degree Manson and Shriner. He is past master of his local lodge Hillsboro 196. He was a Lions District Governor of Texas District 2EI and received the international president's award in 1978.

In light of his many achievements to the field, Dr. Auvenshine has received a number of awards and accolades throughout his career. He was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award from West Texas A&M University in 1983, the Jefferson Davis Award from the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1991, the National Service Award from the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) in 1996 and the Greater Hillsboro Hall of Fame Award in 2005. Dr. Auvenshine was also named Man of the Year in Ranger for 1963 and the Man of the Year in Clarendon/Donley County in 2010.
