After becoming interested in accounting and business while in college, Mr. Sussman pursued undergraduate and graduate degrees in the field before joining Armco Inc in 1978. An experienced professional with skill in risk management, corporate finance, managerial finance, accounting and internal controls, he worked in various positions with Armco, including associate auditor, auditor, senior auditor, supervising auditor and supervisor over the course of nearly 40 years, during which time the company was acquired by AK Steel Corporation. In 2000, he joined Northwestern National Insurance Company and Compass Insurance Company, subsidiaries of AK Steel, as a Statutory Accounting Manager and promoted to Vice President & Treasurer. In 2016, AK Steel sold the insurance operations to the SOBC Darag Group. He holds the position as Assistant Treasurer for SOBC Darag and Chief Accounting Officer of the insurance entities. Although he has accomplished much throughout his career, he is especially proud of maintaining excellence through everything he does.
Before joining Armco, Mr. Sussman earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration from Ohio State University in 1976 and a Master of Business Administration from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago in 1978. He received his Certified Public Accountant license from the State of Texas in 1980. Over the years, he has also furthered his knowledge in the field of internal auditing and insurance accounting. In order to stay abreast of changes in these fields and network with others in the industry, he held an affiliation with the Institute of Internal Auditors, serving two years as President of the Dayton chapter. He maintains his affiliation with the Ohio and Texas Societies of CPAs, and the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association. He was a member of B'nai B'rith International, which is dedicated to the security of the Jewish people and the State of Israel in addition to combating anti-Semitism and bigotry. He served as treasurer of the South Dayton chapter.
Mr. Sussman has been honored for his efforts in finance with the Outstanding Young Men of America Award in 1986. Apart from his professional life, he has been married to his wife, Susan, for 20 years. He has five children, six grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.
