For more than 30 years, he has been providing innovation and technology to industries everywhere. Mr. Mukherjee has an excellent educational background. He earned his Bachelor of Technology degree in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Kharagpur and his Master of Technology degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the IIT at Kanpur. He specialized in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics while doing research at the IITs. His brilliant work as a student at the IITs attracted the attention of universities and technology companies around the world.
In 1988, Microsoft recruited Mr. Mukherjee from IIT Kanpur to lead the architecture, design and development efforts. Mr. Mukherjee functioned as Principal Architect and Lead Software Engineer for Microsoft at the company's headquarters in Redmond, Washington. He played a pivotal role in the architecture, design and development of Microsoft's famed programs including the Windows operating system and the Office suite of applications. He led the creation of various features and technologies such as page layout and formatting, printing, proofing tools, WordBASIC, Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE), Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) and Component Object Model (COM).
Mr. Mukherjee used his knowledge of AI to build intelligent interfaces for Microsoft products. He and his team created the AutoFormat and IntelliSense features. Further, Mr. Mukherjee invented AI-based technology to automate complex workflows. He pioneered the creation of frameworks for generating graphical user interfaces using declarative mark-up languages. Under his vision and leadership, Microsoft created the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) technology. This technology is used today to build powerful software applications which provide visually stunning user experiences.
Some of Mr. Mukherjee's other notable achievements include significant contributions to enterprise architecture and cloud computing. In 1996, Mr. Mukherjee started working with Wolters Kluwer, a global information services company headquartered in the Netherlands. Here, he invented the Intelligent Filing Manager (INTELLIFM) to automate enterprise workflows. INTELLIFM enables professionals to efficiently perform electronic filings in the 50 states of USA and Washington DC. As the Chief Information Officer for Wolters Kluwer, Mr. Mukherjee inspired and spearheaded the development of award-winning e-commerce websites such as CTAdvantage.com, hCue.com, MediRegs.com and LienSolutions.com. He essentially created the Software as a Service (SaaS) model which has since transformed software development and distribution.
From 1988 to 2004, Mr. Mukherjee developed advanced technologies for Microsoft. He created a variety of desktop and web-based applications using these technologies. He published papers on AI and Microsoft technologies. He spoke about these technologies in conferences. He built partnerships between Microsoft and other global companies such as Wolters Kluwer. He ensured that Microsoft was established as an undisputed leader in the technology industry.
From 2004 to 2011, Mr. Mukherjee functioned in directorial positions for the global finance companies Citadel, Bloomberg and UBS. He directed the development of strategic financial applications on Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems. He leveraged open-source technology to deliver cost-effective solutions. During this time, he created the architecture for and directed the development of the award-winning Bloomberg Valuation Service (BVAL). It is a quantitative pricing system which provides accurate and defensible pricing of fixed income and derivatives instruments for mutual funds, hedge funds, money managers, internal pricing groups, auditors and regulators. Mr. Mukherjee built BVAL on the IBM AIX platform.
More recently, Mr. Mukherjee has focused his efforts on automating processes in the space management and retail industries. Icon Parking Systems (Icon) is a leader in branded parking services. It currently has more than 300 locations in Manhattan and the surrounding areas. More than 40,000 cars are parked daily at Icon's locations. As the Head of Software Development, Mr. Mukherjee created the IconParkingSystems.com website which allows customers to sign up for monthly, daily and hourly parking at Icon's locations. He also directed the development of Icon's internal web-based accounting system which allows the company's employees to enter and update customer information, post recurring charges, issue debits and credits, view ledger balances, perform billing and generate invoices. Mr. Mukherjee selected Microsoft technologies to build the e-commerce platform for Icon. Thus, he helped Microsoft to gain valuable business share in the highly competitive cloud market.
Mr. Mukherjee created the AutoPay feature in 2012. This feature enables customers to schedule payments automatically from their preferred payment methods such as ACH, debit card and credit card. AutoPay is convenient for customers and increases efficiency for businesses. By offering this feature to customers, Icon was relieved of the burden of processing cash and paper checks. Under Mr. Mukherjee's leadership, Icon became highly profitable. The company reopened closed locations and acquired new ones. Mr. Mukherjee's innovation was picked up by companies around the world. Today, the AutoPay feature is used across various industries.
Mr. Mukherjee has been associated with KWI as a Senior Executive. KWI provides a SaaS platform to help retailers streamline their processes, create a superior customer experience, sell more and become profitable. At KWI, Mr. Mukherjee has been building technologies for omni-channel retailing.
