MATTHEWS, NC, August 02, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Mr. Burns with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Burns celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An avid lover of astronomy, mineral collecting and science, Mr. Burns began his career as the co-founder and president of Science Hobbies Inc. in Charlotte, North Carolina, – the first retail all-science hobby store in America – from 1961 and 1983. Subsequently, he became the co-founder and president of Science and Nature Distributors Inc., in Matthews, North Carolina, between 1983 and 1989, which was also the first business of this type for retail science products in America. Within 4 years they had established a customer network in all 50 states, Canada and Australia with a 150-page catalog. Mr. Burns later co-founded and progressed to the president of Science Educational Products Inc. from 1989 to 2003. Additionally, he designed, patented, manufactured and marketed operating model atoms with interchangeable parts to illustrate the ions and isotopes of various atoms in motion.

Although Mr. Burns was not able financially to obtain a college education, after developing a deep personal interest in astronomy, chemistry, atomic structure, geology, mineralogy and most earth sciences, he set out on a personal lifetime study of these sciences that has never ended. He installed an astronomical observatory on top of their home in a quest for more knowledge about our universe. The highlight of Mr. Burn's career was developing several science-related products and pioneering the creation of crystal growing kits. In the first year these kits were introduced, they sold over 4,000 units.

Civically, he served in the United States Navy during World War II, from 1944 and 1946. While in the Navy, Mr. Burns held the post of radar man aboard an amphibious landing ship in the Pacific Ocean. For his accomplishments in the field, he has been honored with a special T.D. Burns Recognition Day, at the Hampton B. Allen Library in his hometown of Wadesboro, North Carolina, by the National Retired Teachers Association. Mr. Burns was also nominated for North Carolina's Top Scientist of 2016 Award from the Rotary Science Center & Planetarium. In 2016 he received recognition from The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International by being named a Paul Harris Fellow and presented with a plaque and medal. In 2016, Mr. Burns was awarded a giant trophy by The Planetarium & Science Center inscribed "In honor of Anson County's most famous scientist and philanthropist. He has previously been selected for inclusion in the 25th edition of Who's Who in the South and Southwest.

A respected voice in the industry, Mr. Burns is the author of several publications including a novel, "A Matter of the Heart," four children's science activity books under the titles of "Astronomy," "Chemistry," Rocks & Minerals" and "Insects." He also photographed and produced a "Minerals" poster and a "Rocks & Minerals" Coloring Book, both featuring the same specimens from their collections and both were published by Dover Publishing of New York. Other works by Mr. Burns include manuscripts titled "Exploring Atomic Structure," "3-D Photography With a Single Lens Camera" and "Establishing America's first All-Science Retail Hobby Store" with only $500.00.

Said Mr. Burns, "Whatever success I have experienced throughout my business career, I owe 100% to my wife, Jean. Without her confidence in me, assurance, encouragement, support and sacrifices, we could never have started our first business, nor the businesses that followed." Jean passed away in 2014.

In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Mr. Burns has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
