Dr. Lawrence W. Green is a professor emeritus at the University of California San Francisco.

Now a professor emeritus at the University of California San Francisco, Dr. Green taught public health in the school of medicine for 11 years. He formerly worked in the field as a director of U.S. Office of Global Tobacco Control and in the Office of Science and Extramural Research at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta. An alumnus of the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Green received a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Public Health, and a Doctor of Public Health throughout the course of his studies. He was later awarded with an Honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Waterloo in Canada in 2005.

A celebrated figure in the public health arena for more than 50 years, Dr. Green founded centers for health promotion research at the University of British Columbia and at the University of Texas as a professor and director. He was also employed with the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation as its vice president and the U.S. Office of Health Information and Health Promotion as the director. Moreover, Dr. Green spent over a decade in academia as a lecturer at the University of California School of Public Health and as a professor, an assistant dean, and the head of the health education division at Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health.

Throughout his career, Dr. Green notably served as a visiting professor at the University of Limburg School of Health Science in The Netherlands, a visiting research social scientist at the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California School of Medicine, and a consultant for the World Health Organization, the National Institutes of Health, and the United Nations Fund for Population Activities. Leveraging his boundless knowledge within the field, Dr. Green has published widely. He co-authored "Dacca Family Planning Experiment," which won a Beryl Roberts Award in 1973. Other books include the eighth edition of "Community and Population Health" in 1999 and "Health Program Planning" in 2005 and 2019.

An elected fellow of the American Public Health Association and the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Green is also an honorary member of the American School Health Association. Among other professional organizations, he remains a member of the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research, the Society for Behavioral Medicine, and the American Academy of Physical Education. Dr. Green is a Distinguished Fellow and a past president of the Society for Public Health Education and recipient of the Research Laureate and Lifetime Achievement Awards of the American Academy of Health Behavior.

As a testament to his success, Dr. Green has been recognized with multiple accolades. In addition to earning a Sedgwick Memorial Medal for Distinguished Service from the American Public Health Association, he has been presented with a Doyen Jacques Perisot Medal from the International Union of Health Promotion and Education, and a Distinguished Service Citation from the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Health. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Green has been featured in numerous editions of Who's Who, including Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare.
