Prior to her current role, she worked as a librarian with Levittown Union Free School District from 1964 to 1965 and a librarian with the Wellington C. Mepham High School from 1957 to 1960. Previously, Ms. Mion began her career as a library assistant with the New York State Library from 1956 to 1957.
Ms. Mion initially pursued an education at Hofstra University, obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1955. She continued her studies with State University of New York, earning a Master of Science in Library Science in 1958. She concluded her studies at Hofstra University, completing postgraduate coursework from 1968 to 1969. Moreover, Ms. Mion has been certified as a school library media specialist and a public librarian.
A respected voice in her area of expertise, Mion has been an active leader in her community. She is a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) where she has served on the local, state and national level. In her local Islip Area Branch she has held such positions as President (twice), Program Vice President, Legal Advocacy Fund Director, Public Policy Director, LI Suffragist Committee Chair, member of NCCWSL Committee and more: AAUW L.I. Interbranch Secretary/Treasurer: AAUW NYS President, NYS Development Vice President; NYS LAF Director, NYS Public Policy Director, NYS Convention Director, member NYS Membership Committee and NYS Women's Work Women's Worth Taskforce: National AAUW LAF Committee, AAUW Public Policy Committee Chair, Leadership Corp and Charting the Course Campaign Team. Additionally Mion has also served as the Board Chair, President, Secretary, Treasurer and Director of Long Island Against Domestic Violence and served on the Board of the Dowling College Minority Teacher Training and Development Center; member of Graduate Women USA Advocacy Committee and was a member of the L.I. Fund for Women and Girls Gender Equity Committee. She has also been a member of Connetquot Teachers Association (CTA), CTA Building Representative; Suffolk School Library Media Association, and Western Suffolk BOCES School Library Advisory Council.
Throughout her career, Ms. Mion has been celebrated for her exemplary achievements. She has been presented with a number of awards and accolades for her contributions to the field. Likewise, Ms. Mion has been featured in numerous publications, including multiple editions of Who's Who in America and Who's Who of American Women.
