A Russian immigrant, Ms. Shklyar has held a deeply felt passion for building things from an early age, which she was able to realize through the computing industry. Since 2017, she has excelled as a director of high performance computing for Pomona College. Prior to obtaining her current position, she gained valuable expertise as a senior scientific consultant in infrastructure for BioTeam in 2017, a systems engineer for Counsyl from 2015 until 2016, and an HPC systems engineer for SpaceX between 2013 and 2015. Earlier, she also worked as a key account manager and a Linux administrator for 454 Life Sciences from 2007 to 2013. Her inaugural positions in the field were that of a system administrator and a project manager for SE Technologies from 1999 to 2001, and a senior system engineer for Invitrogen from 2002 until 2008.
Ms. Shklyar earned a Bachelor of Arts in management and computers from Moscow State Open University in 1999. She is additionally a certified AWS Solutions Architect through Amazon Web Services. In civic affairs, Ms. Shklyar contributes her time and resources to her community by volunteering at local schools, as well as career fairs and Maker Spaces.
Ms. Shklyar attributes her success in the field to her naturally imbued persistence. Her aversion to surrender, especially in a field traditionally dominated by men, fortified and gave her the stubbornness she needed to thrive. Whenever Ms. Shklyar is told she is not able to do something, it is her natural impulse to do it regardless. Looking forward into the future, she intends to establish a dedicated space for exploring new technology.
