ALBUQUERQUE, NM, August 20, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Colston Chandler, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Chandler celebrates many years' experience in his profession, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
After nearly 40 years of experience in higher education and physics, Dr. Chandler became a professor emeritus at the University of New Mexico, a title he has held since 2004. Serving as a professor at the university from 1978 to 2004, he previously held the roles of assistant professor and associate professor between 1966 and 1978. During his tenure in academia, he served as a visiting professor at the University of Bonn in Germany in 1978, as well as a Fulbright senior scholar at Flinders University in Australia between 1994 and 1995. Also involved in the non-academic side of physics, he was a National Academy of Sciences exchange scientist at the East German Academy of Sciences in 1983, a faculty scientist-in-residence at the Argonne National Laboratory from 1984 to 1985, and a visiting scientist at the Central Institute for Particle and Nuclear Physics in Budapest numerous times from 1977 to 1997.
To prepare for his career, Dr. Chandler pursued formal education at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, where he received a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics in 1961. He then attended the University of California Berkeley, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in physics in 1967. In addition, he was a post-doctoral student at the Institute for Theoretical Physics, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zürich, Switzerland from 1967 to 1970. A contributor of myriad articles to professional publications throughout his career, Dr. Chandler is notably a fellow of the American Physical Society (which recognized him as an outstanding referee for their journals in 2012), as well as a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Sigma Xi. Dr. Chandler served as an elected officer (vice chair, chair-elect, chair, past chair) of the Topical Group on Few-body Physics of the American Physical Society during 1995-1999. He also served as chair of the Gordon Conference on the Dynamics of Simple Systems in Chemistry and Physics in 1999 and as vice chair in 1996.
As a testament to his immense success and longevity in the field, Dr. Chandler earned the Memorial Medal from the Central Research Institute for Physics in 1988. Likewise, he was selected for inclusion in the 21st and 25th editions of Who's Who in the West. Having accomplished much throughout the years, Dr. Chandler considers as highlights of his career the obtaining of his doctoral degree, the Hungarian collaboration, and the writing with a colleague of a series of papers titled "N-Body Quantum Scattering Theory in Two Hilbert Spaces."
In recognition of outstanding contributions to his profession and the Marquis Who's Who community, Dr. Chandler has been featured on the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement website. Please visit www.ltachievers.com for more information about this honor.
