He previously conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Virginia from 1987 to 1989, spent a near decade-long tenure as a senior research scientist at the College of William & Mary from 1989 to 1997. He currently serves as a senior scientist in the Ultratech division of Veeco, a company located in San Jose, California, which builds and markets manufacturing systems for the global technology market.
Dr. Wang earned a Bachelor of Science in physics from Peking University in Beijing, China, in 1969, and went on to receive a Master of Science in physics from the Ohio State University in 1983. Three years later, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from the Ohio State University in 1986, where he also served as a research assistant while pursuing his doctoral studies.
Alongside his primary career responsibilities, Dr. Wang notably served as a consultant for the Langley Research Center affiliated with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in Hampton, Virginia, from 1989 to 1997. In light of his success with the institution, he earned the Public Service Medal from NASA in 1992. Dr. Wang's myriad achievements also include developing patents in his field, conducting research, and developing highly sensitive frequency modulation laser spectrometers, advanced lasers and passive radiometer instruments for airborne and space-borne applications.
Dr. Wang's accomplishments have also been publicly endorsed by his peers, which include skilled engineers such as Michael Friedman, Ivan Maleev and Jiyoung Foo. His long list of endorsements underscores a pronounced talent and work ethic, and is a testament to the powerful potential that the study of scientific disciplines such as physics has in terms of tangible, real-world application.
Dr. Wang has been married to his wife Shufen Zhang since 1977 and is the proud father of two children, Zhijing and Zhijian. He continues to work in his field and contribute articles to professional journals.
