Soon thereafter, he earned a Doctor of Natural Sciences from the aforementioned academic institution in 1984. During this time, Mr. Burger worked as a science assistant for the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry of the University of Tuebinen from 1981 to 1985.
Furthermore, Mr. Burger found success at CeramTec GmbH in Plochingen, Germany, as a science co-worker, a group leader and the head of oxide materials for the development department between 1985 and 2005. Subsequently, he served as the head of the research process and product innovation at OxiMaTec GmbH, in Hochdorf, Germany, between 2005 and 2007. He has since remained active with the company as the managing director. In the past, Mr. Burger excelled as the project manager of international development projects with the Commission of the European Union from 1991 to 2004.
Additional achievements to Mr. Burger's credit include patents for zirconia and platelet reinforced alumina. He is also responsible for the development of Y-TZP ceramics by using yttria coated zirconia powders, which led to the discovery of nano-scaled ceramic microstructures. The highlight of Mr. Burger's career was the development of a special ceramic material, which is used to this day for hip joint surgery. It was during his employment at CeramTec, where the material was produced, which went on to become one of the most famous ceramic materials worldwide. Mr. Burger was also proud of his invention of another ceramic material that has been used in the dental and medical industry.
An exceptional Marquis listee, Mr. Burger has been featured in multiple editions of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and Who's Who in the World. A lifetime member of Verein Alter Roigel E.V., he also maintains professional ties with Society of German Chemists.
