Mr. Karasik is a business executive and information systems management expert with more than 45 years of distinction in the field. He initially pursued an education at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, graduating in 1972 with a Master of Science in electrical engineering. In 1975, Mr. Karasik completed a master's degree in management, with distinction, at Northwestern University. Moreover, he is a registered certified public accountant in the state of Illinois, and a certified management consultant.
From 1972 to 1973, Mr. Karasik worked as the acting supervisor and a member of the technical staff at Bell Telephone Laboratories in Piscataway, New Jersey. He later flourished as a consultant to Deloitte, Haskins, & Sells of Chicago from 1975 to 1978, before becoming the vice president of administration at JP Walsh, Incorporated, of Chicago in 1979. In 1980, he briefly served as a principal consultant for MWS Consultants, Incorporated, of Chicago, joining Veatch, Rich, & Nadler, Chartered, as a provisional equity partner to found its consulting practice in the same year, becoming a full partner in 1982.
Mr. Karasik would remain with the aforementioned firm through 1983 during which time he reorganized the operations and technology of SEKO, allowing it to become a major international outsourced logistic services provider. In 1984 he joined B.L. Rosenberg CPAs as a non-equity partner and founded a consulting subsidiary which he spun off as a separate entity in 1985, becoming president of Coldframe, Incorporated, in which he was active from 1985 to 1988. In parallel, he also was senior technical consultant to the Legal Technology Advisory Council and the Law Office of the Future projects at the American Bar Association. This led Mr. Karasik to become the first CIO at Kirkland & Ellis from 1988 to 1991, where he developed full text document management technology and designed and deployed a national integrated voice/data network. Later, as the director of operations at Sutter Corporation (a progenitor of HCA), San Diego, from 1991 to 1994 he gained ISO/GMP and healthcare provider accreditation as well as designed, built and deployed the first two-way mobile wide area asynchronous data messaging system. In 1997, he joined Plymouth Rock Assurance as acting vice president of technology, and earned RealWare honorable mention for a state of the art 'big-data' marketing/underwriting system for 1998. In 1999 he joined Cozen O'Connor as their first CIO to oversee a complete transition of their technology. In 2000 he rejoined Fujitsu Consulting as Director of Management Consulting (having been with them during 1995-6) and was involved in several successful large scale merger/integration projects. He joined Tatum Partners as a CFO Partner in 2004, serving as CFO for several healthcare organizations and then completed his career as CFO for Lindora Weight Management during 2009-10. He thereafter retired to Nahariya, Israel in 2011.
Mr. Karasik has written and edited numerous papers, journal articles, and book chapters, including a 1994 paper about fuzzy neural networks that he co-wrote with Paul Williamson. He developed quality assurance regression testing methodologies and software at Bell Labs in the early 1970s; co-authored portions of IEEE/ANSI Software Engineering standards and applied them at American Bar Association's software certification efforts in the 1980s. He designed an expenditure control system for use by a major international government and developed early personalized CRM, salesforce management, EDI/supply chain and wireless 2-way mobile messaging during the 1980-1992 period. In 1987, Mr. Karasik was invited to write his "White Paper," for presentation by former United States President Gerald Ford to the Reagan administration, which he considers, along with being a founder of software engineering as a discipline, the crowning achievement of his career. Mr. Karasik was additionally recognized as an Austin scholar by Northwestern University during 1973-1975.
