Her inaugural role was that of a Spanish and Italian teacher at Warwick Veterans High School from 1961 to 1962, and continued her prolific career as a Spanish teacher at St. Bernard's School from 1975 to 1984, a senior advisor at Griswold High School from 1985 to 1992, a teacher at Griswold High School from 1984 to 1996 and a teacher at Sebastian River High School from 1996 to 2002. Ms. DiSalvo-Whitford retired in 2005 as a teacher at Indian River State College. Prior to becoming an esteemed educator, she pursued higher education with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Rhode Island in 1961 and a Master of Science from Eastern Connecticut State University in 1983.
Apart from her career, Ms. DiSalvo-Whitford volunteered in her field and community. She served as a member of the Democratic Town Committee of Baltic from 1972 to 1975, Cub Scout leader in Baltic, Connecticut from 1970 to 1975 and the secretary of Baltic Franklin Little League from 1971 to 1976. Outside of her professional responsibilities, Ms. DiSalvo-Whitford remains informed of the changes and advancements in her industry through relevant organizations. She is a member of the National Retired Teachers Association and the Association of Retired Teachers of Connecticut. She is married to Gilbert Ronald Whitford and has three children. In her free time, Ms. DiSalvo-Whitford enjoys reading, traveling, watching movies, and exercising.
In light of her many accomplishments in the field, Ms. DiSalvo-Whitford has received a number of awards and accolades throughout her career. She received the Outstanding Teaching Award from the State of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Citation for Outstanding Achievement in Education from the Rhode Island House of Representatives.
