In addition to running DE, since 1969 Dr. Sinai has been president of Laural Consulting, Evanston, IL and Lexington, MA. Prior to establishing DE, Dr. Sinai was chief global economist and a managing director at Lehman Brothers, Inc. (1983-96), chief economist as well as executive vice president at The Boston Company and Economic Advisors, Inc. (1997-2003) and before that the chief financial economist, senior vice president and co-director of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at the pioneering econometric forecasting firm Data Resources, Inc. (DRI) (1971-83).
In an academics career spanning over nearly five decades, Dr. Sinai has held a number of university positions—from assistant to full professor, University of Illinois-Chicago (1967-72); adjunct professor of Economics and Finance in the Lemberg School at Brandeis University (1988-96); as a professor at New York University (1984-88) and at Boston University (1981-83). He was a visiting faculty member at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1975-77) and the MIT Sloan School of Management (1989-91).
Dr. Sinai has published nearly 100 articles in academic, business, financial and other journals and has presented scores of testimonies and presentations in Washington or to the Congress as an independent adviser.
A recognized global economist and forecaster of business cycles and financial markets, analyst, researcher and investor, Dr. Sinai's work has positively impacted the industry for nearly 50 years. Collaborating with individuals, private firms and policy makers in Washington and Japan, among other international locations, he has notably been involved with the U.S. Congress and both Republican and Democratic administrations regarding the economy, financial markets and macroeconomic policies, especially tax and monetary. He is known for his unparalleled forecast accuracy and for pioneering the use of a National Economic and Financial Information Systems approach to forecasting trends and short-term fluctuations in the U.S. and World economies and financial markets.
Over many years, Dr. Sinai has been widely quoted and cited in the written, TV and radio media, and has made hundreds of appearances on television and radio, both nationally and internationally. He has presented hundreds of speeches, lectures, and hosted seminars in a variety of settings, business, financial and academic, U.S. and worldwide.
Currently he is an advisory board member for the University of Michigan (U. of M.) Economic Leadership Council (ELC) (since 2007) and also serves on the board of the university's Ford School of Public Policy (since 2004). From 1992-to-2014 he served on the board of directors at Boston Private Financial Holdings, Inc. (BPFH), including Boston Private Bank (1992-95). He was on the board of economists for Time Magazine between 1991 and 2003. He has also been on the board of directors of the Economists for Peace and Security (EPS) since 1994.
Dr. Sinai is a former vice president and president of the North American Economics and Finance Association and elected fellow and former vice president and president of the Eastern Economic Association. He was on the board of directors of the Western Economic Association, and maintains membership in the International Banking, Economic and Finance Association, the American Economic Association, and the Econometric Society.

Dr. Sinai holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, with Honors, from the University of Michigan (1961), and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy, PhD in Economics from Northwestern University, awarded in 1966 and 1969, respectively.
