GROVE, OK, August 30, 2019 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Rev. Richard Lee Dayringer, ThD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A clinical counselor for St. Johns Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, Dr. Dayringer began his professional journey as a pastor for various Baptist churches in 1951, leading congregations in Missouri, Kansas, and Louisiana until 1965. During that time, he also completed an internship through Southern Baptist Hospital in New Orleans and a residency in psychiatry through East Louisiana State Hospital. Upon the completion of his residency, he became the director of the department of pastoral care and counseling for Baptist Memorial Hospital, serving from 1965 until 1974. From there, he garnered additional experience as an instructor of pastoral care for Immaculate Conception Seminary, and as a guest professor, a clinical instructor, and an adjunct professor at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary from 1968 to 1974. Over the course of the following 25 years, Dr. Dayringer also taught human development counseling, religion, and pastoral counseling through the Schools of Medicine at the University of Missouri, Southern Illinois University and Sangamon State University.
In addition to his work in ministry and medical education, Dr. Dayringer has worked as the associate director of the Alcohol Education Project through the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the founder, and a supervisor of Interfaith Counseling, Inc. Moreover, he accepted positions as a teacher with Boyce Bible School, and a senior book editor for Haworth Pastoral Press. Ordained to the ministry through the Baptist Church, Dr. Dayringer earned an Associate of Arts from Southwest Baptist College in 1953, and a Bachelor of Arts from William Jewell College in 1955. He subsequently received a Master of Divinity through the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1961 and a Doctor of Theology from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1968. Throughout his career, he has retained professional alignment with several organizations, including the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists, the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., and the Association of Baptist Chaplains just to name a few. In civic pursuits, Dr. Dayringer has also contributed his time and resources to the Boy Scouts of America.
With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Dayringer authored over 70 journal articles and a number of books over the years, including "God Cares for You," "The Heart of Pastoral Counseling," "Dealing with Depression," and "Life Cycle." He has also contributed to professional publications such as the Journal of Pastoral Care, the American Journal of Pastoral Counseling, and the Journal for Sex Education and Therapy in an editing capacity. Due to his outstanding achievements, he was honored on many occasions, earning a Research Award from the Joint Council for Research in Pastoral Care and Counseling in 1981, a Researcher of the Year Award through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education in 1984, the Comiss Research Award in 1991, and the Bridwell Fellowship through Southern Methodist University's Perkins School of Theology. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Dayringer's efforts have likewise been featured in editions of Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in Religion.
