More than 40 years in education have left Dr. Saylor an authority in her industry. She began her career as an English teacher in the Shikellamy School District from 1972 to 1982, a principal in the Shikellamy School District from 1982 to 1987, the superintendent of schools at the Fairfield Area School District from 1987 to 1996 and an adjunct professor at Millersville University from 2005 to 2006. Dr. Saylor served as the superintendent of schools at the Manheim Central School District from 1996 to 2009. Currently, she is chief recovery officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Prior the onset of her extensive career, Dr. Saylor pursued higher education with a Bachelor of Arts from Susquehanna University in 1972, a Master of Science from Bucknell University in 1984 and a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University in 1987. The Pennsylvania Department of Education certified her as a home and school visitor, a comprehensive English teacher, an elementary principal, a secondary principal and a superintendent. Dr. Saylor was mentored and inspired by Dr. Earl Horton, who encouraged her to pursue a superintendent's position.
Outside of her professional responsibilities, Dr. Saylor remains informed of the changes and advancements in her industry through relevant organizations. She is a member of the American Association of School Administrators and Delta Kappa Gamma. Likewise, Dr. Saylor excelled as a member of the board of directors of the Manheim Area Chamber of Commerce from 1998 to 2001 and as president of the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators from 2002 to 2003. Dr. Saylor was active as an account executive at United Way of Lancaster County. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, cooking, golfing and reading.
The proudest moment of Dr. Saylor's career was establishing a full-time kindergarten program while she served as superintendent. In light of her many accomplishments in the field, she has received a number of accolades throughout her career. She won the Outstanding Educational Improvement Project Award from Nova Southeastern University in 1987. Likewise, Dr. Saylor was named Friend to Art Education by the Pennsylvania Art Education Association in 1995 and Pennsylvania Superintendent of the Year. She has been featured in the 61st edition of Who's Who in America.
