Prior to embarking on an accomplished career in travel advising and writing, Mr. Oliver earned an Associate of Science from Greater Hartford Community College in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1972. He went on to attend the University of Massachusetts, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and Certification to Teach Secondary Science and Vocational Agriculture in 1975. In 1981, he earned a certificate in Data Processing from Business Education Institute in West Springfield, MA. Mr. Oliver concluded his studies at the University of Hartford, graduating with a Master of Business Administration in 1989.
From 1975 to 1979 he taught Vo-Ag in Suffield, CT and Biology and Astronomy at Enrico Fermi in Enfield, CT. Concurrently, from 1972 to 1975, Mr. Oliver was a commercial real estate salesperson for Gordon Realty in Enfield. He would become a reserve salesman for Forsman Realty in Enfield from 1975 to 1977 before becoming the collections manager for the New England Bank & Trust in Enfield, where he would serve through 1979. Between 1979 and 1981, Mr. Oliver served with CCEC/McCullagh Leasing Inc. in South Windsor, Connecticut. Between 1981 and 1989, he worked in Computer Science at The Travelers, Hartford, CT.
Following these opportunities, Mr. Oliver became the president of Ollie & Ike's Inc. from 1985 to 1986. Serving as an adjunct then as a visiting professor at the Barney School of Business with the University of Hartford from 1988 to 1991, he also worked at the Boston office of the Microsoft Corp. from 1989 to 1993. In 1993, Mr. Oliver retired from corporate work to focus on traveling and opened Professional Office Solutions to work providing educational and IT Contract services until 2008.
His lifetime recognitions include Eagle Scout and FFA Connecticut State Farmer in the 1960's. In 1994, Mr. Oliver was awarded the State of Connecticut Board of Trustees Merit Award for his service as a Trustee and Advisory Board Chairman as well as in recognition of his naming of Asnuntuck Community College in 1973.
Mr. Oliver has numerous certifications and specializations in travel advising, including as a Signature Travel Network specialist and a Cruise Line International Association accredited cruise counsellor and is a recipient of the Silver Magellan Travel Weekly Award. He is the host of several travel-related media ventures, including BruceOliverTV.com, Sensational Books, and the "Cruise with Bruce Radio Program," which he has hosted since 2008. Notably, Mr. Oliver has been the President of Axis Mundi Systems LLC, Las Vegas, NV and owner of the Cruise with Bruce / Virtual Luxury Travel Network, division of Palm Coast Travel since 2010.
