Prior to that position, Ms. McDonald excelled as a teacher of special education at the Washington Community School District in Iowa from 1969 to 1971. Her career began in 1969, when she worked as a teacher of special education for the Ottumwa Community School District. Furthermore, she is a former member of the student improvement team at Jackson Heights Elementary School.
Ms. McDonald pursued an education at the University of Missouri, earning a Bachelor of Science in 1969. She completed her studies at Kansas State University, from which she graduated with a Master of Science in education and 58 hours of additional coursework in 1973. She was certified as a teacher of grades kindergarten through eight in Kansas and certified in learning disabilities, behavioral disabilities, social studies, and developmentally disabled.
Notably, Ms. McDonald was recognized as an Outstanding Nutrition Educator by the Midland Dairy Council in 1994 and was the recipient of Outstanding Young Women of America Awards in 1973 and 1984. Moreover, she has been honored with the titles of Who's Who in American Women, Who's Who in the Midwest, and was featured in "Who's Who Biographical Record: Child Development Professional." She was highly regarded by the Council for Exceptional Children as a Professionally Recognized Special Educator. Ms. McDonald additionally offers her time and services to the National Education Association, the Council for Exceptional Children, the Kansas National Education Association, and Alpha Iota Chapter (now defunct) of Delta Kappa Gamma, among other organizations.
