A retired social worker of 30 years, Ms. Cook's career began in 1972 with the Sinai Hospital of Detroit. A senior social worker at the hospital for 19 years, she subsequently spent nearly a decade in several academic and corporate roles before being hired as a Social Work Manager for the Henry Ford-Wyandotte Hospital and Medical Center in 1999. Ultimately, Ms. Cook became a senior social worker with Community Hospice in 2002, where she remained for another two years until retirement.
A speaker in her field, Ms. Cook has hosted numerous professional meetings in her area of expertise. She also lent her expertise to the Greater Detroit Area Health Education Council and the Human Services Forum's Downriver chapter.
Ms. Cook received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Mercy College in Detroit in 1971 and a Master of Social Work from Wayne State University in 1985. Her master's thesis was notably titled "Paradigm for Achieving Self-Enablement: A Problem-Solving Model for Implementing Personal Health Care Goals." She also completed doctoral coursework at Wayne State University in 1988. Ms. Cook is a Certified Social Worker in the state of Michigan and a Diplomate in Clinical Social Work.
Affiliated with multiple professional organizations throughout her career, Ms. Cook is a past president and past vice president of the National Hospice Organization, and the Social Workers Club of Detroit. She also held roles with the Michigan Society for Hospital Social Work Directors and the National Association of Social Workers, and is a member of the Michigan Society of Clinical Social Workers, the National Hospice Organization and the American Public Health Association, among others. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Cook has been showcased in the 21st edition of Who's Who in the Midwest and the second and fourth editions of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
