Dr. Werner Heinrich Terjung became a professor of climatology at UCLA in 1966, for which he continues to teach.

Dr. Terjung is a climatologist and an educator with more than 55 years of accomplishment in his discipline. Prior to beginning his career, he served to the rank of a sergeant in the U.S. Army between 1954 and 1957. Upon returning to civilian life, he attended Long Beach State University, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts in 1962 and a Master of Arts in 1963. Dr. Terjung attended the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA,) where he graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1966.
From 1963 to 1964, Dr. Terjung taught at Mayflower High School of Bellflower. He became a professor of climatology at UCLA in 1966, for which he continues to teach. Dr. Terjung feels that climatology came naturally to him, as geographers were neglecting it at the time.
Dr. Terjung received research grants from the National Science Foundation in 1966, 1975, 1976, 1977, and 1978, and from UCLA's Department of the Interior each year from 1969 to 1972. He is the recipient of an award from the Annals of the American Association of Geographers in 1994. Dr. Terjung is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the International Society of Biometeorology, and the Association of American Geographers.
